About Sisters Community Solar

Sisters Community Solar allows New Orleanians to save money with solar energy without installing panels on their own roof. Subscribers receive an allotted portion of power produced at a local solar farm. The electricity is fed into the local energy grid, and subscribers receive credits on their Entergy bills based on their share of the farm’s production. Community solar projects like this are operating in communities across the country.
Yes. You will keep your Entergy account, and nothing changes about how electricity reaches your home.
No solar panels or installations are needed on your home. The solar farm generates the electricity for the project.
The solar farm is being built on a 20-acre piece of land leased to the project by the Sisters of the Holy Family in New Orleans East.
The solar farm is under construction now and is expected to begin operating in early 2027.
No. Sisters Community Solar does not provide backup power to your home. If there is an Entergy outage in your area, your home will lose power just as it does now.

Any residential household in Orleans Parish with an Entergy New Orleans account is eligible.
No. You can live anywhere in Orleans Parish.
Yes. Sisters Community Solar is only available to Orleans Parish residents
Yes. Renters, apartment and condominium residents, and homeowners can all participate.

If you already have solar panels, you should still join the Priority List. Eligibility for households with existing rooftop solar will depend on available spots, as we want to prioritize access for people who don’t already have access to solar energy. We’ll share more information as the project moves forward.

No. There are no sign-up fees and enrollment is free.
Joining the Priority List is the first step toward participating in Sisters Community Solar. Because spots are limited, people on the Priority List will be the first to have the opportunity to enroll. If more people are on the Priority List than there are available spots, a lottery system will determine who receives the first invitations to enroll.
Your Entergy bill shows your energy-use history. We use your annual electricity usage to determine how much solar energy to allocate to your household.
No. Spots are limited. Joining the list ensures you are considered first, with top priority given to TNO members and neighbors of the solar project. If demand exceeds availability, remaining spots will be assigned via a lottery, with at least 50% reserved for low-income households.
No. Joining the Priority List does not commit you to enroll. If a spot becomes available for you, you’ll receive an invitation to enroll. You can then decide whether you want to participate.
If you’re offered a spot, we’ll contact you with instructions for completing your enrollment. Joining the Priority List does not obligate you to subscribe. Watch your email for your invitation and next steps.
If all available spots are filled, you’ll be added to a waiting list and given the first opportunity to enroll as spots become available.

Your share of solar energy will be based on your household’s annual electricity use, using the usage history on your Entergy bill. The amount is determined based on your energy use rather than an amount you choose.
Low-income families will save 20% off the cost of their total bill. Non-low-income families will save 10%. If you qualify as a low-income household, you will be asked to provide documentation to verify your income after you join the Priority List.
Your savings are based on how much solar energy the farm produces, which varies with sun conditions. The farm will generally produce more energy in the summer and less in the winter, so your savings will vary throughout the year.
No. Your community solar credit will appear directly on your Entergy bill. Everything else about receiving and paying your Entergy bill stays the same.
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time with no cancellation fee. If you move to another address in Orleans Parish with Entergy New Orleans service, you can take your subscription with you.

At least 50% of the project’s capacity is reserved for low-income families.
It depends on your household size and annual household income. Some households earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) may qualify, with priority given to households at or below 60% AMI. If you qualify as a low-income household, you will be asked to provide documentation to verify your income after you join the Priority List.
