About Sisters Community Solar

Sisters Community Solar allows New Orleanians to save money with solar energy without installing panels on their own roof. Subscribers receive an allotted portion of power produced at a local solar farm. The electricity is fed into the local energy grid, and subscribers receive credits on their Entergy bills based on their share of the farm’s production. Community solar projects like this are operating in communities across the country.
Yes. You will keep your Entergy account, and nothing changes about how electricity reaches your home.
No solar panels or installations are needed on your home. The solar farm generates the electricity for the project.
The solar farm is being built on a 20-acre piece of land leased to the project by the Sisters of the Holy Family in New Orleans East.
No. Sisters Community Solar does not provide backup power to your home. If there is an Entergy outage in your area, your home will lose power just as it does now.
Sisters Community Solar is currently under construction and is expected to begin delivering savings to subscribers in Spring 2027.
Yes! Requesting a subscription and enrolling are free. You will never be asked to make a payment to the solar program.
If you’re offered a spot and enroll, your solar savings will appear as a credit and reduce your bill. The credit will vary each month depending on how much energy the project produces, but it will always lower your Entergy bill.

Who Can Participate

Any residential household in Orleans Parish with an Entergy New Orleans account is eligible.

Yes. Renters, apartment and condominium residents, and homeowners can all participate.

No. Sisters Community Solar is open to households at all income levels. At least 50% of the project is reserved for low-income households.
No. Sisters Community Solar is only available to residential households.
Yes. You can still request a subscription if there are solar panels on your home. Because spots are limited, households that own and benefit from their existing rooftop solar may receive lower priority. Having solar panels on your home does not automatically exclude you.

Requesting a Subscription & Enrollement

The sign-up period runs from September 13th through October 5th. After the sign-up period closes, we’ll review all requests and contact you with next steps. Sisters Community Solar will have approximately 650 subscriptions available. If we receive more eligible requests than available subscriptions, we'll select participants through a lottery.
No. Requesting a subscription does not guarantee you a spot. TNO member organizations and neighbors of the solar project will receive the first opportunities to subscribe. If demand exceeds availability, a lottery will determine who is invited. If space remains, other eligible households will also have an opportunity to enroll.
If you’re offered a spot, we’ll contact you with instructions for completing your enrollment. Joining the Priority List does not obligate you to subscribe. Watch your email for your invitation and next steps.
If all available spots are filled, you’ll be added to a waiting list and given the opportunity to enroll as spots open up.
No. Requesting a subscription does not commit you to enroll. If you’re offered a spot, you can then decide whether you want to participate.
Your Entergy bill shows your energy-use history. We use your annual electricity usage to determine how much solar energy to allocate to your household.
No. Requesting a subscription and enrolling are free. If you are offered a spot and enroll, your solar share generates credits that appear on your Entergy bill—and you save money every month.
No. You will not be asked for a credit card, bank account, or other payment method when you enroll, and there are no upfront costs. Once enrolled, your solar share generates credits that appear directly on your Entergy bill —and you save money every month.

Your Solar Share, Savings, & Credits

When you join the Priority List, we’ll ask for a copy of your Entergy bill. Your bill shows how much electricity your household typically uses. We use that information to determine the size of your share of the solar project. Your share determines how much solar energy is credited to your Entergy bill each month and is sized to provide 10–20% savings.
The solar site generates electricity, and that electricity goes to the grid. Subscribers receive credits on their Entergy bill based on their share of the electricity the site produces. The credit amount is calculated using the solar energy assigned to the subscriber and the credit rate. Low-income households receive a 20% savings rate, while other households receive a 10% savings rate.
We are working with Entergy New Orleans to confirm exactly how the credit will be displayed on the bill. Based on the current rules, we expect it to appear as a single line credit showing the amount of solar energy credited to you, the credit rate, and your guaranteed savings rate. We will update this FAQ as we receive additional details from Entergy New Orleans.
Your savings are based on how much solar energy the farm produces, which varies with sun conditions. The farm will generally produce more energy in the summer and less in the winter, so your savings will vary throughout the year.
No. Your community solar credit will appear directly on your Entergy bill. Everything else about receiving and paying your Entergy bill stays the same.
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time with no cancellation fee. If you move to another address in Orleans Parish with Entergy New Orleans service, you can take your subscription with you.

Low Income Households

At least 50% of the project’s capacity is reserved for low-income families.
It depends on your household size and annual household income. Some households earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) may qualify, with priority given to households at or below 60% AMI. If you qualify as a low-income household, you will be asked to provide documentation to verify your income after you join the Priority List.
