Solar breakthrough ripples across Entergy territory

Solar projects across Entergy’s four-state system could move faster thanks to a decision this week tied to TNO’s Community Solar project with the Sisters of the Holy Family.
TNO leaders uncovered a costly barrier while developing the project. Entergy required installation of a Direct Transfer Trip (DTT), an outdated safety system that would have added over $1 million and months of delay.
TNO commissioned a study showing the equipment wasn’t needed for the Sisters’ project. Discussions opened with the City Council and Entergy about whether the rule itself should change; prompting Entergy to revisit their rules for all territories.
At Wednesday’s Climate & Sustainability Committee meeting, Chair Aimee McCarron accelerated the timeline. Local developers will now learn by April, rather than June, whether a DTT will be required for their projects.
The big picture: Thousands of clean energy projects nationwide are stuck in grid interconnection queues while federal incentives expire by 2027. Speeding up approvals is critical to getting new power online; now, it’ll be easier in all of Entergy’s operating regions.
